Point'd Hongrie with Borders - Restoration in Bordeaux, France - Part II

A set of images showing a parquet floor restoration work done by Cedric Lannegrand's crew at SARL Infinity Parquet in Bordeaux, France. The parquet floor is composed from a mirror Point d'Hongrie arrangement outside the parquet floor border created perimeter while inside perimeter there is a simple Point d'Hongrie (or Chevrons). The parquet floor border inlay pattern is a Greek key with flower corners (turning blocks).

Parquet Border Inlay - Milan, Italy

Milan, Italy. An apartment with an old parquet floor arrangement (here we have a Herringbone layout) displaying also a parquet floor border inlay. A classic parquet flooring installation. Impossible to verify the time details related to the parquet floor because - as happens so frequently - the parquet flooring is a side of non-interest in articles about interior design.

Another sample of an old and very well maintained parquet floor installation - most probably in the New York area - displaying a chess layout in the central area surrounded by a hardwood floor border inlay. The same installation technique: nailed down down piece-by-piece.

A Hardwood Floor Border - old and restored.

Another example of a nailed fdown old parquet flooring with a hardwood border (a nail down installation means every piece of the flooring is kept down by a nail and not by adhesive like today). The hardwood border - a well know pattern - is installed near to the wall together with a geometric parquet flooring pattern. This is a restoration - left side the initial state, right hand the restored. Another 100 years of life ahead. All solid, no engineered.

Another sample of nail down parquet flooring with a Basket Weave arrangement. The area in the middle is surrounded by a hardwood border inlay (a typical border design for that age).

Chevrons - Point d' Hongrie - with Parquet Border Inlay

A sample of the Chevrons layout (in France it is called ”Point d' Hongrie” ) installed with a parquet border. The installation work is still underway. Location & time: London, U.K., May 2013.

Parquet Border Inlays, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Another sample of the old parquet flooring with border inlays. Old job, nail pinned on every piece. Two parquet border patterns (hardwood floor borders) visible. Location: Brooklyn, N.Y. Age? Probably close to 100 years.

Late 1800's parquet border inlay installed with strip hardwood flooring

A parquet border inlay installed with strip (apparently Oak hardwood flooring) in a late 1800's house. The beauty of the patina visible. Back in the age when the parquet flooring was in fashion, when the good craftsmanship and taste in wood flooring was, probably, more constant than today. A source of inspiration.

Hardwood Floor Border Inlays

The hardwood floor borders can be found as built with round shapes. Difference from the geometrical shaped ones is that the design can be way more creative. As example the below image shows a Pavex Parquet hardwood floor border inlay belonging to the MARQUETERIA Collection. The presented border is installed with a brown color African hardwood which founds itself included in the middle of the design. Walls with a classic golden wallpaper.

A Typical Installation - Hardwood Floor Border with Herringbone Laid Parquet

Somewhere in the U.K.-

The installation in the image is done in a relatively small room. It is composed from a Herringbone laid parquet pattern in the middle (parquet battens 10x70x350mm) a Greek Key DE (double edge) parquet border pattern and the backfill strip (completes the installation to the wall).

The installation has been done by Naturally Wood Ltd., Loughton, Essex, U.K.

The Greek Key Hardwood Border + Herringbone laid parquet flooring

Insole Court in South Wales and the fine parquetry with inlay border. Craftsmanship of the 19th century.

The Insole Court is a Llandlaff, South Wales located mansion who belonged to James Harvey Insole, a colliery proprietor. It's a mansion whose building started at the middle of 19th century and went through a series of rebuilding and redecoration phases afterwards.

What interests us is the parquetry flooring installed in the house in the 19th century which, in the dining room, features a splendid parquet border.

Parquet border in Sankt Petersburg

Large inlay border in one of the Sankt Petersburg palaces - a type of Greek key pattern. Some of the works there have been remade after the damages inflicted in the WW II.

The works in the palaces of Hermitage and Pavlovsk (but not only) are worth seeing.

Solid System Hardwood Floor Borders

The image attached shows a sectioned hardwood floor border (our Grill pattern in this case). It is a standard 10 mm thickness product that can be installed in glue down parquetry works.

For the case where different thicknesses are needed there are the following two solutions available:
1. Inferior thickness - under 10 mm thicknesses can be manufactured - like 8 mm (5/16 inch) for example;
2. Superior thicknesses - something like 19 mm (3/4 inch) or 21 - 22 mm - for this case a plywood is attached underneath the border to compensate to the overall thickness of the surrounding floor;
